Copelands is Western Australia's first LGBTQI+ youth crisis transitional accommodation service currently consisting of four houses located in the City of Cockburn.
Copelands provides services to troubled individuals that are at risk of homelessness. Currently there is a rising spike in homelessness, depression and suicide rates within WA, especially within the LGBTQI+ sector. We felt something needed to change and created a service that provides to those struggling.
With opening Copelands, we hope to reduce these spikes and assist these unfortunate people to achieve their fullest potential. The residents consist of a mix of couples and singles that identity as LGBTQI+.
All residents are supported by on-site staff. Furthermore, residents will be given work opportunities at AYLA's op shop to increase their skill sets and confidence for overcoming their own personal barriers and hardship they are facing in their life. Residents also receive services from our Wellness Centre to assist in overcoming hardships they may be facing.
There are several ways to get involved. Copelands requires sponsors, financial donations/investments, spokespersons and role-models to supply the service, staffing and overheads.
